Grains and Oilseeds Processing Laboratory

The 1,500-square-foot, FDA-approved Grains and Oilseeds Processing Lab is designed for small-scale, pilot-relevant processing of cereals, pulses, and oilseeds.

Overview

This facility enables the conversion of raw grains or seeds into value-added food and industrial ingredients. Typical operations include cleaning and conditioning, dehulling, milling and fractionation, mechanical oil expelling, and filtering. Additionally, the laboratory can handle basic refining steps and classify protein, fiber, and starch fractions.

Its flexible, mobile equipment and appropriate food-grade utilities allow quick reconfigurations for different crops, process conditions, and product concepts while meeting FDA food safety and sanitation standards. Staff can assist with process design, trials, and data collection to help with scale-up, product validation, and techno-economic analysis.
