AURI board appoints/nominates new and returning members

At a regularly scheduled board meeting on Thursday, December 19, 2013, the board of directors of the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) appointed one new member for seating on the board immediately and re-nominated two members to be seated in January 2014, as is AURI’s customary practice.  The appointments, as follows, are:

  • New: Former State Majority Leader Roger Moe, to a temporary, six-month appointment by the board following the resignation of Roger Chamberlain, who served on AURI’s board representing agribusiness for seven years. Moe, who will also represent agribusiness, was instrumental in the creation of AURI, filing the original bill creating the organization as Senate File 1 in 1987.
  • Returning: Ron Obermoller, representing a commodity group—Minnesota Soybean. Obermoller has served on the AURI board for two years and currently serves as chairman. Obermoller is a producer from Brewster, Minn., who has been active in the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, National Corn Growers Association, Minnesota Pork Producers, Minnesota Soybean Growers Association and the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council for many years.
  • Returning: John Goihl, representing agribusiness. Goihl is a nutritionist and owner/president of Agri-Nutrition Services, a direct service company serving feed manufacturers, larger livestock producers, ranchers, and vendors to the feed and livestock industry. Goihl is a member of the American Society of Animal Science. This will be his third on the AURI board. Goihl was also elected to serve as secretary/treasurer in Chamberlain’s absence for one month until elections in January.

“Roger Chamberlain’s love for agriculture was evident though his work on the AURI board and will be dearly missed,” says Chairman Obermoller. “Roger Moe is a long-time advocate for Minnesota. His experience and dedication to rural Minnesota will be great assets to AURI as we move forward.”
