Crop Residue Valuation Template
As interest grows in biomass to energy and other value added opportunities for Agricultural residues, AURI focused on the need to develop a useful tool to help individuals determine an accurate fertilizer replacement value for crop residue removal.
The Crop Residue Valuation Template tool allows individuals to calculate the fertilizer replacement value of crop residue removal along with projected residue yields for corn stover and wheat straw. AURI does not recommend utilizing soybean straw for biomass needs due to sustainability questions associated with soybean straw removal.
AURI would like to recognize and thank South Dakota State University for access to this template. The Crop Residue Valuation Template does not include harvesting, collection, or transportation values associated with residue removal.

One of the most common questions entrepreneurs and small business owners ask themselves is “how can I increase my sales?” The obvious answer for most is to grow the customer base, but that can only get a business so far. For most, the better solution is to increase the volume of units sold across all […]
The path to commercial success is rarely linear. Instead, it’s often chock full of twists, turns and unexpected challenges, something to which Tom and Jenni Smude can likely attest. The Smudes, who own Smude Enterprises, makers of Smude’s Sunflower Oil, have turned necessity into a thriving business that is being recognized as AURI’s 2018 Ag […]
For 2019 AURI categorized the research priorities into three broad, but distinct groups: Coproducts/Biobased/Renewables, Multi-Disciplinary and Food.
Each year, AURI undertakes significant initiatives and influential studies related to value-added agriculture, and makes them available to the public in order to further innovation in the areas of food, coproducts, renewable energy and biobased products.
Moisture content is an ongoing issue in agriculture. Many wet biomass feedstocks generally have low value due to the high cost of thermally removing water to utilize the biomass. AURI works with a variety of these biomass feedstocks that contain high moisture contents such as digester solids, food processing waste, and even a variety of crop residues.
