Co-products utilization lab
This facility is used for the development of new uses for plant and animal by-products that present environmental and economic opportunities. Focus areas include animal manures, mortalities, ag processing byproducts and crop residues. Proper handling and processing can lead to new uses like animal feeds or fertilizer. Services provided at the waste utilization facility are available to farm organizations, producers, commodity groups, cooperatives, agribusinesses and entrepreneurs. The co-products utilization laboratory in Waseca is a unique facility, equipped for small scale product development, limited production runs and can also accommodate waste products that have special handling requirements due to bulk or moisture content. The lab and staff are available to existing and start-up companies as well as entrepreneurs. Equipment located on site includes assorted grinders, commutators, a single-screw extruder, California pellet mill, fluidized bed dryer and equipment for size grading. AURI staff are available and trained in the operation of all lab equipment and can assist in production runs, needs assessments and engineering processes.
