Experience
across the board
By Edgar Olson
Executive Director
At AURI, we work
hard to stay on the cutting edge of agriculture.
Our staff is constantly in touch with businesses
and entrepreneurs, researching and collaborating
with our partners to further value-added
agriculture in Minnesota.
Most of the final
decisions on project funding, however, are made
by people we don't talk much about -- our board
of directors. Comprised of representatives from
Minnesota's ag organizations, commodity groups
and the state legislature, the board represents
most of the producers in our state. They also
bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to
AURI, enabling it to stay current and quickly
react when opportunities arise.
The men and women
on the AURI board represent the corn and soybean
growers, hog producers, and wild rice and wheat
growers as well as legislators, agri-business and
farm organization leaders. Nearly every facet of
Minnesota's diverse agricultural industry is
represented. And while each member has skills and
insight developed from their own experience, they
also bring the collective wisdom of the groups
they represent.
AURI projects run
the gamut, from nutraceuticals to alternative
crops like hazelnuts and chicory. Having a
diverse board gives AURI the ability to examine
new ideas from all angles. While the diversity of
opinion may make some decisions more difficult,
and at times even lengthen the process, the
board's wide-ranging experience ensures that
decisions are made in the best interests of all
of Minnesota's agriculture industry.
